Dear St. Rita School,
My senior year of high school starts Thursday so I decided to take a little time to look back on how I got here. I remember my SRS days like it was yesterday. The sounds of the lockers in the hallways or the various bells we had over the years will forever be ingrained in my memory. I remember sitting in ELA with Mrs. Doucette when she told us high school was going to be difficult. I never believed her. I should have. My freshman year was a rough one. But that was no one's fault but my own. I thought everything needed to go my way but quickly realized that's not how the world works. Again I should have listened. After a few terrible months, I fell back on my roots. Started volunteering at low-income special needs schools in Bridgeport. Something I would have never done if SRS did not give me the opportunity to work with kindergarten so closely. I skipped a grade in math purely thanks to the one and only Mrs. Brennan and now I will not be taking math because I maxed out my credits. Academics were never a problem for me and I thank all of you for that. I maintained a 4.0 GPA in all advanced classes all 3 years so far. I am an active member of the Student Council. Again, something I would have never done had I not learned leadership skills from SRS. This year I'm taking 2 AP classes and 2 early college classes. Who would have thought? I'm very close with the Deacon at ND and I read at every school mass. I would not have known this is something I would like to do if it weren't for our First Friday Masses.
Outside of school, I teach 2 religious education hours, dance competitively, babysit full time, and have over 400 hours of lifetime community service.
I wanted to reach out and thank all of you for shaping me to be the person I am today. I would not be here if it wasn't for you. Going to Saint Rita's was the best decision I made. It's hard to believe a decision my family and I made when I was 8 years old would have such an impact on my life. I would go back to those days in a heartbeat. I had several rough days at SRS but no one ever gave up on me. I will forever be grateful for your kindness. I remember several lunches with Mrs. Robinson when she told me I "needed to stuff white envelopes" looking back I know she knew I just needed a break.
Thank you again for your dedication to students and for making me the student I am today!!
